Well, I had a lot trouble with Fedora. It begins here. I had reformatted twice, and got it working properly. So, I got to work, setting the system up. Eeverything was fine, until I got to the screen configuration. If you read my blog often, you’ll have seen the one about christmas. Well, the X server didn’t accept my config for the second screen, and wouldn’t boot. So, I found out that I needed to get an Nvidia driver, and cofig maker. I do so. I open up a terminal, and execute the file. It says “The X server must not be running during driver installation.” So, I find out how to terminate the X server. I try again, and get this: “You must have the Linux kernel source installed for this installer to properly install.” I have to reboot the computer, since I didn’t know how to reboot the X server. I go into the Fedora IRC channel, and they just gave me a link to a page with the RPM’s included with Fedora. After an hour of searching, I finnaly find it. I try to run it, and it won’t let me. I try it as root, same thing. I go find a tutorial on how to install the Linux kernel source, and it doesn’t work. So, I just started playing with the config, and eventually had a stretched screen. I just said screw it, and booted into my hard drive manager disk. DELETE!!!
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out.
I’ve been looking into running Ubuntu, until I realized it’s server capabilities were low. I’m going to try CentOS V5.1. If anyone whom reads this knows anything about CentOS, I’d be glad for your opinion. Email me at angrykid2z@gmail.com please.
Anyway, I’ve got XP running again. I’ve already got the TS server back up, and the Shoutcast server is ready to go. I’m a little hesitant on the game server though, because people usualy complain of lag if the server is holding more than four people. This is why I was looking into Linux, because I know it can run all the other servers, and even one XP can’t, with great speed. There’s the little problem of what I’m going to run my clients on though. Wine doesn’t work with steam too well, and I had to download a special program just to install and start steam. This is where the idea of a laptop steps in, and says “HOODELAH!”. But, I’m not rich enough for a laptop. :(
On a posotive node, I’ve gotten enough skills to go to the Wild server on Wurm.
After years of trying, I’ve finnaly reached my goal. Horah.
And, I think that’s the end of this post. Thank you for reading random shiz that only I care about.
